ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES

Athens' archaeological wealth is apparent wherever you turn your eyes, and Greek history jumps out of each piece of it. First and foremost, the emblematic Acropolis, this famous, splendid landmark that carries the whole country in it, is conspicuous from almost every location of Athens.
On the southwest side of Acropolis, is located the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, which nowadays is called Irodeion. It's an ancient amphitheater, built in the Roman Times, and today several cultural events take place there. Moreover, the Panathenaic Stadium, or Kallimarmaro, with marble seats, is placed in the district of Pagkrati, and it can host 45.000 people. In 1892, it was renovated to host the first Modern Olympic Games.
